Submitted:  Cumberland County High School Counseling Department

Cumberland County High School has announced their Tennessee American Legion Auxiliary Girls State and Tennessee American Legion Boys State representatives for 2019.

Kayla Ashburn, Shelbi Brewer, Bailey Jones, Sheridan Roberts, Holley Shaw, and Liv Stewart will represent CCHS at Girls State on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville, May 26 to June 1, 2019.

Reese Dykes, Trevor Parsons, Pearson Seals, and Mason Wyatt will represent CCHS at Boys State on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, May 19 to May 25, 2019.

Boys State and Girls State are the premier programs for teaching how government works while developing leadership skills and an appreciation for a student’s rights as a citizen. As a participant in the program, students will run for office, learn public speaking, create and enforce laws, and actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government.  They will also get to meet with current government leaders and officials from around our state during their sessions.

High school juniors are selected and sponsored by the local American Legion Posts (boys), Daughters of the American Revolution (girls), and other generous community donors and sponsors which allows each of the students to attend these programs the summer before their senior year.
