Special Needs

Before taking any of the following classes In Special Education, students must have teacher approval. The Basic and LRE curriculums are designed for the student who Is completing an Individualized educational program of study. An IEP team determines which classes the student takes each year. Generally, each course In the Basic curriculum or the LRE curriculum teaches specific skills and objectives that the student needs to be successful on exit exams and to make the transition from school to the workplace. When a student meets the objectives in his/her IEP course work, the IEP Is completed. Credits may be earned through IEP course work.

Grades: 9-12 one credit for each class

Basic English focuses on listening skills, grammar usage, reading comprehension, and writing to communicate. The student will study literature by reading novels, plays, poetry and short stories.

Basic Math 1 #9108-1

Grades: 9-12 Credit: 1

This course consists of whole numbers- addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; prime and composite numbers, least common multiple, greatest common factor; fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Basic Math 2 #9108-2

Grades: 9-12 Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Basic Math I or instructor approval

This course consists of decimals, percent, calculating fraction/decimal/percent equivalences, ratios and proportions, graphing, statistics and probability, measurement, polygons, circles, and equations.

Basic Math 3 #9108-3

Grades: 10-12 Credits: 1 or 2

Prerequisite: Basic Math 1 and2

1 elective credit for Basic Math 3A

1 elective credit for Basic Math 3B (Math 38 will count towards math graduation requirement)

This course consists of a brief review of Basic Math 1 and 2, number expressions, equations, properties, variable expressions and equations, decimals, algebra, and integers. 

Basic Transition/CO-OP #9498

Grades:11-12 Credits: 1 or 2 Students must have instructor approval before taking this class

Students will receive one credit for classroom work and one credit for work experience.

Basic Gateway #9456-25

Grades: 10-12 Credit: 1

This course is for students that have taken but not met the requirements of the Standardized Exit Exams and have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Adaptive Physical Education #3301-9

Grades: 9-12 Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Instructor approval

This course provides an opportunity for students with disabilities to participate in and learn the rules and strategies of a variety of physical education activities.
